Tips for Faster Plastic Surgery Recovery

Regardless of what type of cosmetic surgery you are having, there are some things that you can do at home to speed up your recovery. It is important to follow all of your doctor’s recovery and post-op instructions, including taking any prescribed medications. Here are some other things you can do to recover from plastic surgery faster.

Avoid Sun Damage

Exposure to the sun’s damaging rays can slow down the progress of your recovery. This is especially true if you have had rhinoplasty or a face lift. Avoiding the direct sun as much as possible will speed up your recovery and reduce scarring. If you do need to be outdoors, make sure you use a full-spectrum sunblock.

Don’t Be Sedentary

Your doctor probably gave you instructions about your activity level during your recovery. It is important to adhere to these, but you don’t want to become too sedentary. Spending too much time sitting or lying down will slow the healing process and make it more difficult for you to get moving later on in your recovery. You don’t want to overdo it, but taking light walks to keep moving will be beneficial.

Drink Lots of Water

Water is as necessary to healing as sleep. Make sure that you are getting plenty of plain water, not just clear liquids. You should also make sure that you are getting adequate rest, sleeping when you are tired. Water and sleep will carry you through to a speedy recovery.

Don’t Smoke

Your plastic surgeon probably told you to quit smoking before your procedure. Many plastic surgeons will refuse to operate if you smoke. This is because smoking restricts blood vessels and can slow down healing. It can also cause more complications from surgery. If you quit smoking for your procedure, don’t start again until at least after your doctor proclaims your recovery over.
