Breast Augmentation or Breast Lift: Which is Best for You?

One of the most frequently altered body parts with plastic surgery is the breasts. Alterations to breast size, shape, volume, and positioning are done to give a more youthful, well-rounded appearance. Two of the most popular procedures are breast augmentations and breast lifts. But, how do you know which procedure is best for your goals and expectations? What are the differences between a breast augmentation and a breast lift?

Breast Augmentation

If you want larger breasts, then a breast augmentation is right for you. Breast augmentation makes breasts larger and can also correct some shape issues.

During a breast augmentation, your surgeon will strategically place incisions to minimize visibility and maximize lift. In fact, breast augmentations are often done in conjunction with breast lifts for the best results!

Your surgeon will also use their expertise to choose your implant size and material. Not all implants are made the same or give the same look, and only your surgeon will know which ones will give you the aesthetic you desire.

Breast Lift

If you are unhappy with droopy, saggy breasts, a breast lift is right for you. A breast lift repositions the breasts higher on the chest while also correcting some shape issues as well.

There are several different types of breast lifts, including periareolar, vertical breast reduction, and inverted-T incisions. Dr. Adams will choose the type that will give you the best results for your shape and position goals. The inverted-T incision procedure is the most common and gives the maximum lift.

Not sure if you could benefit from a breast lift? Do the pencil test! Simply place a pencil (or pen, marker, etc.) in the fold under your breast. Does your breast hold it in place without you touching it? If the answer is yes, then a breast lift could be a good option to pick your breasts back up to where they were before age, weight changes, and childbearing brought them down.

As mentioned before, breast augmentation is often combined with a breast lift to add volume, give lift, and reposition the breast and nipple to give a flawless, natural look.

No matter if you want to add size to your small breasts or simply pick your breasts back up to where they were in your 20’s, Dr. Adams and his expert surgical team have the experience and training to give you the silhouette you’ve been dreaming of.
