If you’re thinking about having breast implants, here’s some fascinating information about where it all started.

The History of Breast Augmentation

Although there had been a few medical attempts to boost breast size before the 1960s, it was in this era that breast implants really started to take off – or at least, in the form that we know today.

The first silicone implant was developed by two doctors from Texas, Frank Gerow and Thomas Cronin. Timmie Jean Lindsey was the first person to have silicon breast augmentation, and it’s thought that she took around 8 weeks to heal completely from her treatment.

Mass-Market Appeal

Of course, after these exciting developments, everyone wanted to find out more about breast surgery. In the 1970s, medical experts worked hard to make the silicone implants softer and more like natural body tissue. By the 1980s, safety was a top issue, as it became apparent that certain forms of silicone could cause health issues, particularly if they leaked into the body.

However, thankfully by the 1990s, firm regulations were in place, ensuring that breast augmentation was safe for the women of the US.

Breast Augmentation in the Modern Era

Since those humble beginnings in the 1960s, breast surgery has become the most popular cosmetic procedure in the country. Of course, there’s now a far wider range of treatments available to women and men; from breast uplifts to male breast reductions to combat gynaecomastia.

Thanks to tight regulations, people across the country can receive cosmetic surgery to boost self-confidence, improve their appearance and help them to love the body they’re in. There’s never been a better time to book your cosmetic treatment!

“I had my first surgery in 2008 with Dr. Adams amazing results! No regrets returning when I wanted to change in 2019. I also had a lower blepharoplasty last year and it was and is absolute perfection ! I healed quickly with no signs of having the procedure done shortly after everyone was amazed at the results:)”
